Dejen Media (August 3) — As clashes between federal forces and the Fano militia group intensify, the President of Amhara Region has officially called on the Federal Government to intervene militarily.

In a letter published by the state newswire service, the Ethiopian News Agency, the president of the region, Yilkal Kefyale, addressed Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, expressing concern over the escalating unrest that has disrupted law and order in the region. He emphasized that the ongoing crisis is leading to significant social and economic disruptions.

Yilkal further stated that the Amhara region is currently unable to contain the situation on its own and urgently requested the federal government to intervene and implement all necessary measures to restore law and order.

The crisis erupted in April when the federal government made the decision to disarm armed groups in the region, including Fano and special forces.
