EVN (September 11) — According to sources affiliated with the Ethiopian Voice Network (EVN), members of the Defense Forces hailing from Amhara backgrounds and recruited from various regions in Jinka continue to remain incarcerated. Those detained include Captain Mulugeta Aderawu, Deputy Captain Worku Guest, Soldier Azmerawu Fastene, Soldier Ababye Baye, Soldier Zna Gerse, Soldier Weletau Takhrete, Soldier Agmas Bai, and Soldier Abush Aze. These individuals have been held in custody for several months and are believed to be associated with the security forces stationed at Jinka Wine Asarbet.
These detainees, as indicated by EVN sources, have been categorized as political prisoners, facing charges related to the alleged sale of weapons and treason. In accordance with the charges, they have received sentences ranging from three to fifteen years of imprisonment.
All of the soldiers in question hail from Amhara backgrounds, originating from regions such as Amdework, Gozam, East Balsa, North Gondar, Yeda, Mertolemariam, and Addiseman. Reports from EVN sources indicate that numerous Amhara nationals are currently enduring conditions of torture in various prisons situated within the southern region.
Meanwhile, Eleven individuals lost their lives in an attack perpetrated by militants in the Dima district of the Anhua ethnic zone, located in Gambella. The victims were said to be traditional miners operating in the area. According to our source, the killings could have an ethnic twist as the targets were from Northern Ethiopia.
